Updates from the Global Ocean Acidification Observing Network (GOA-ON)

We would like to encourage you to take advantage of some exciting opportunities to engage with the global ocean acidification community today. First, you can visit the Ocean Action Hub online forum for ocean acidification discussions in advance of the UN Ocean Conference on SDG-14. Second, visit the Global Ocean Acidification Observing Network (GOA-ON) portal and contribute your ocean acidification monitoring assets. Third, take a look at the 3rd GOA-ON workshop Summary for Policymakers to get an overview of ongoing global and regional network activities. Last but not least, consider becoming a mentor or mentee through GOA-ON's Pier2Peer program.

Chemistry of ocean (past present and future) theme at the Goldschmidt 2017 Conference

Workshop on ‘Frontiers in ocean-atmosphere exchange: Air sea interface and fluxes of mass and energy’

We would like to let you know that a SOLAS workshop on 'Frontiers in ocean-atmosphere exchange: Air sea interface and fluxes of mass and energy' will take place on 15-19 May 2017 at the Institut d'Études Scientifiques de Cargèse in Corsica, France. Due to the limited capacity of the venue, the workshop can accommodate a maximum of 50 people. Abstract submission deadline: 31 March 2017.

First Report of the Tropical Pacific Observing System (TPOS 2020) project

The First Report of the Tropical Pacific Observing System (TPOS 2020) project was published on 30 December 2016. This report contains initial recommendations for the Backbone and a synopsis of initial results and plans for the various initiatives of TPOS 2020. The Executive Summary and the full First Report can be downloaded from the tpos2020.org website or from the GOOS Report site.

POGO-SCOR Visiting Fellowship 2017 Programme

The Partnership for Observation of the Global Oceans (POGO) is pleased to announce that the POGO-SCOR Visiting Fellowship programme for 2017 is now open for applications. The deadline for applications is 7 April 2017. The scheme is designed to promote training and capacity building leading towards a global observation scheme for the oceans, and is aimed at scientists, technicians, postgraduate students (preferably PhD) and post-doctoral fellows involved in oceanographic work at centres in developing countries and countries with economies in transition.

19th WMO/IAEA Meeting on Carbon Dioxide, Other Greenhouse Gases, and Related Measurement Techniques (GGMT-2017)

The 19th WMO/IAEA Meeting on Carbon Dioxide, Other Greenhouse Gases, and Related Measurement Techniques (GGMT-2017) will be held on 27 – 31 August 2017 at Empa in Dübendorf, Switzerland. The meeting will be held back-to-back with the 10th International Carbon Dioxide Conference (ICDC10), Interlaken, Switzerland.
Registration and abstract submission opens in April 2017.

ICDC10 and IOCCP Marine Carbon and Biogeochemistry Data side-event

We would like to remind you about the abstract submission deadline for the 10th International Carbon Dioxide Conference (ICDC10) approaching on 15 March 2017. At the same time we would like to inform you about an IOCCP half-day workshop on “Marine Carbon and Biogeochemistry Data Management and Synthesis” which will take place on Wednesday, 23rd August 2017 as an official part of the Conference.

2017 Call for SCOR Working Group Proposals

The Scientific Committee on Oceanic Research (SCOR) is accepting proposals for 2017 SCOR Working Groups from now until 15 April 2017. SCOR will approve new working groups at its annual meeting, this year held in Cape Town, South Africa on 4-6 September 2017. Details about the meeting will be posted on the meeting web site as they become available.

A GODAE OceanView International School "New Frontiers in Operational Oceanography" – applications open

We would like to let you know that applications are now open for the Global Ocean Data Assimilation Experiment (GODAE) OceanView International School "New Frontiers in Operational Oceanography", which will be held on 2-13 October 2017, in Mallorca, Spain. The international school for observing, assimilating and forecasting the ocean is a two week program offered to early career scientists, professionals and students on the current state of the art in operational oceanography and related advances in the ocean sciences. The courses will include topics covering the leading edge science in ocean observing systems, as well as the latest methods and techniques for analysis, data assimilation and ocean modeling.
Deadline for applying is February 28, 2017.
The IOCCP promotes the development of a global network of ocean carbon observations for research through technical coordination and communication services, international agreements on standards and methods, and advocacy and links to the global observing systems. The IOCCP is co-sponsored by the Scientific Committee on Oceanic Research and the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO. Read more…
