We are excited to announce that on June 25 at 13:00-14:30 UTC, the Integrated Carbon Observation System - Ocean Thematic Centre (ICOS OTC) together with the IOCCP will hold a public webinar to kick off the 1st ICOS OTC pCO2 instrument inter-comparison whichwill take place at the Flanders Marine Institute (VLIZ) in Oostende, Belgium, on 28 June - 11 July 2021.

The webinar will introduce the structure and goals of the exercise but also provide a historical overview and legacy of past pCO2 inter-comparison exercises which took place between 1995 and 2010. The webinar will be moderated by Dariia Atamanchuk (IOCCP Scientific Steering Group member, and theInter-comparison Organizing Committee member) and Artur Palacz (IOCCP Project Officer). The agenda is as follows:

Earlier this week, on World Oceans Day, the IOC-UNESCO announced the endorsement of the first programmes and contributions submitted under the UN Ocean Decade for Sustainable Development. IOCCP has played an active role in preparing five bids which were all successful:

• Observing and Predicting the Global Coastal Ocean (CoastPredict) which will “integrate observations with numerical models to produce predictions with uncertainties from extreme events to climate, for the coastal marine ecosystems (their services), biodiversity, co-designing transformative response to science and societal needs.” 
• Observing Together: Meeting Stakeholder Needs and Making Every Observation Count which will “transform ocean data access and availability by connecting ocean observers and the communities they serve, through enhanced support to both new and existing community-scale projects.” 
• Ocean Observing Co-Design: evolving ocean observing for a sustainable future which will “build the process, infrastructure and tools for co-design, creating an international capacity to evolve a truly integrated ocean observing system, matching agile observing and modelling capability with requirements.” 
• Global Ocean Oxygen Decade which will “raise global awareness about ocean deoxygenation, provide knowledge for action and develop mitigation and adaptation strategies and solutions to ensure continued provision of ecosystem services, and minimize impacts on the ocean economy through local, regional, and global efforts, including transdisciplinary research, innovative outreach, and ocean education and literacy.
• Ocean Acidification Research for Sustainability (OARS) which will “foster the development of the science of ocean acidification including the impacts on marine life and sustainability of marine ecosystems in estuarine-coastal-open ocean environments.”

We would like to inform you about the next AtlantOS Ocean Hour which takes place on June 8, 2021 from 15:30 to 16:30 (UTC), followed by a 30min optional Networking (16:30 - 17:00 UTC). This AtlantOS Ocean Hour will focus on the Carbon Uptake in the Atlantic Ocean. Two overarching questions are: (1) How can we imagine optimal designed observation, monitoring, and evaluation systems in the continuum between the coasts and open ocean? (2) How can we monitor the long-term impacts and efficiency at coastal / open ocean scales with regards to Carbon Geoengineering?

We would like to let you know that US Ocean Carbon & Biogeochemistry (OCB) is building the leadership team for a new NSF EarthCube-funded Marine Ecological Time Series Research Coordination Network (METS RCN) over the next 3-4 years. This RCN is primarily aimed at building community consensus around FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) data solutions and broadening users and applications of METS data sets. RCN activities will include both virtual and in-person consensus building activities, a METS data working group, regional user groups, products, and case studies to explore broader applications of METS data sets, and a data hackathon to build capacity to ingest, analyze, and integrate METS data with other disciplinary and cross-disciplinary data to accelerate scientific discovery. Applications for the steering committee members are welcome from all interested and enthusiastic experts in the fields of oceanography, data science, earth system models, statistics, or data synthesis, and with a vested interest in applying FAIR principles across METS programs.

RCN Steering Committee commitments will include:

• virtual planning and discussion meetings every ~6-8 weeks (more often as needed)
• planning and attending (as necessary/interested) RCN activities - travel support is available
• contributing to RCN publications and products

We encourage you to join the Global Ocean Oxygen Network (IOC Expert Working Group GO₂NE) for a new session of its webinar series on ocean deoxygenation. The seventh webinar will take place on 26 May 2021, 14:00-15:00 UTC. The webinar will be moderated by Michael Roman (University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science, USA) and will feature two talks by Cassandra N. Glaspie (Louisiana State University, USA) on "Fish diet shifts associated with the northern Gulf of Mexico hypoxic zone" and by ­Nancy N. Rabalais (Louisiana State University, USA) on "Eutrophication-driven coastal hypoxia in the northern Gulf of Mexico."

We are absolutely thrilled to let you know that on 1 May 2021, the IOCCP welcomed six new members of the Scientific Steering Group (SSG), completing the biggest rotation on our Panel since its inception. Adrienne Sutton (NOAA PMEL, USA) and Keyhong Park (KOPRI, Republic of Korea) take over the responsibility for the Time Series Efforts theme; Richard Sanders (NORCE, Norway) will lead the Surface Ocean Biogeochemistry Observations theme; Maribel García-Ibáñez (UEA, UK) will coordinate the ship-based component of the Interior Ocean Observations theme; Steve Jones (UiB, Norway) takes responsibility for Data & Information Access Services theme; while Sana Ben Ismail (INSTM, Tunisia) will strengthen the regional implementation of IOCCP coordination and communication services across several of the themes. We would like to let you know that the next GOA-ON Webinar by the Communities of Ocean Action on Ocean Acidification will take place on Monday, 17 May 2021, 12:00 –13:00 UTC. The two focal points for the Communities of Ocean Action on Ocean Acidification, Bronte Tilbrook (CISRO) and Peter Swarzenski (IAEA), will provide updates about progress made on the Voluntary Commitments (VC) and other developments. They will be joined by Roshan Ramessur (OA Africa Network) and Kirsten Isensee (IOC-UNESCO) who will share lessons learned from their VCs during the past year. The Communities of Ocean Action were created in 2017 at the Lisbon Ocean Conference to serve as a catalyst for change, providing an opportunity to network and collaborate on commitments which address Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 14.
