In "Recommendations for Plankton Measurements on OceanSITES Moorings With Relevance to Other Observing Sites" the authors provide motivation for augmenting existing time-series sites with biological measurements by presenting relevant science questions, reviewing existing technology, backed up with examples of time-series sites
