We would like to inform you that the next Gordon Research Conference (GRC) on Ocean Biogeochemistry will be held in Hong Kong on 8-13 July 2018. There will also be an associated Gordon Research Seminar (GRS) on Ocean Biogeochemistry for early-career researchers on 7-8 July. The topic of the 2018 GRC and GRS will be Biogeochemistry of Marine Interfaces. Oral and poster presentations and discussions will address, without being limited to, biogeochemical fluxes between the atmosphere and the ocean; between the surface, intermediate, and deep waters; and between the deep ocean, the seafloor and the sub-seafloor. Socio-economic aspects will also be considered.
Registration opens on February 9 and applications close on 10 June 2018, but you are invited to apply early due to a maximum of 200 participants accepted.
Dates and Program
The GRC will take place from Sunday evening through Friday morning, July 8-13, 2018. You can find the program at this site: http://www.grc.org/programs.aspx?id=17298
The GRS will start on Saturday morning and last until Sunday afternoon, July 7-8, 2018. For details on the program please see http://www.grc.org/programs.aspx?id=17667
Location
The two successive meetings will be held on the spectacular campus of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. Housing will be at the very comfortable university's Conference Lodge.
Application
Because all GRCs are limited to a maximum of 200 participants, scientists interested in participating in the GRC or the GRS and GRC are invited to apply early, even before the opening of registration on February 9, 2018. Scientists interested in attending a GRC or a GRS must first apply on the webpage of the meeting. Once their application is accepted by the organizers, they can register. The application process is easy: (1) go to the website, (2) press the blue button "Apply Now", and (3) follow the instructions on successive pages. We encourage applicants to provide the title and content of their poster at the time of application (these could be modified later).
Early-career researchers could attend, in addition to the GRC, the GRS on Ocean Biogeochemistry during the weekend before the GRC. The GRS will provide them with a forum to discuss science and careers and to network before joining the GRC on Sunday evening. To participate in the GRS-GRC, one should apply for the two meetings, using a single electronic application form.
The attached flyer summarizes the information on the 2018 GRC on Ocean Biogeochemistry. Please, mark the dates in your calendar, and inform potentially interested colleagues, collaborators and students. Circulate the flyer widely.
