We would like to let you know that there will be a theme dedicated to "Chemistry of ocean (past, present and future)" at the upcoming Goldschmidt 2017 Conference, held on 13-18 August 2017 in Paris, France. Abstract deadline is: 1 April 2017.
Chemistry of ocean (past present and future)
Co-ordinators:
Jean-Pierre Gattuso (UPMC, Villefranche-sur-Mer)
Adina Paytan (University of California, Santa Cruz)
Minhan Dai (Xiamen University)
Introduction:
Ocean chemistry is dynamic, changing at multiple spatial and temporal scales. This session focuses on the processes that determine the distribution of chemical substances in the ocean and the internal ocean processes (ocean biogeochemistry, mixing and circulation) as well as ocean-atmosphere, ocean-land and ocean sediment interactions that shape these distributions. Such processes are indicative of climate, environment and ecosystem changes in the past, present and future. We encourage submissions utilizing observations, experiments, and models and covering scientific subjects such as: (1) the ocean role in controlling the atmospheric CO2 content through time and atmospheric impacts on ocean chemistry, (2) changes in ocean carbonate chemistry, oxygenation, and trace metal concentrations and speciation, (3) controls on ocean productivity and nutrients distribution, and (4) effects of changes in input of weathering products through river systems to the coastal zone and distribution and controls on dissolved organic substances.
