  • Future Earth - Oceans: seeking community input
  • Future Earth - Oceans: seeking community input

The Future Earth Secretariat is seeking community input on two of its "Oceans" thematic research initiatives. The two topics concern the scoping phase for a Collaborative Research Action (CRA) between Future Earth and the Belmont Forum, and the development of Oceans Knowledge-Action Networks (KANs). You are kindly invited to fill out this brief survey by August 15, 2016.

First, Future Earth and the Belmont Forum are currently in the scoping phase for a Collaborative Research Action (CRA) focused on oceans, in view of possible Belmont Forum funding. Through consultations within our community of Future Earth Core Projects, Future Earth and Belmont have developed a preliminary draft CRA structure and list of priorities for oceans research, attached here as a pdfPDF.

Second, Future Earth is in the process of developing Knowledge-Action Networks (KANs), collaborative frameworks that facilitate highly integrative sustainability research. Their aim is to generate the multifaceted knowledge needed to inform solutions for complex societal issues. Future Earth currently is in the process of developing a Knowledge Action Network focused on oceans. We seek your expression of interest in participation in this Knowledge Action Network development process.

The IOCCP promotes the development of a global network of ocean carbon observations for research through technical coordination and communication services, international agreements on standards and methods, and advocacy and links to the global observing systems. The IOCCP is co-sponsored by the Scientific Committee on Oceanic Research and the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO. Read more…
